Case Study
Frontline Esports Network (FEN)
How we designed and built a structured competitive ecosystem on top of Discord — including roster systems, performance logic, and intelligent scoring algorithms.
From Chaos to Competitive Structure
Competitive FPS ecosystems are fragmented. Teams rely on Discord, spreadsheets, and manual coordination. FEN was designed to solve one core problem: lack of structure in competitive play.
Instead of replacing Discord, we built a system that adds a structured competitive layer on top of it:
- Player identity system
- Roster management with roles (IGL, support, etc.)
- Scrim participation tracking
- Performance logic and scoring
- Scalable tournament-ready architecture
The goal was not just to build a platform — but to create a repeatable competitive system.
System Architecture
FEN is built as a modular WordPress-based SaaS system with custom logic layers designed for scalability.
Player System
Each player has a structured profile with role, activity tracking, and performance data. This creates a persistent competitive identity beyond Discord.
Roster Engine
Teams are structured with defined roles, leadership (IGL), and coordination logic. This replaces chaotic team management with a clear system.
Scrim Layer
Scrims are no longer informal sessions. They become structured events with tracking, participation, and performance signals.
Smart Systems & Algorithm Design
The real innovation of FEN is not UI — it’s the logic layer behind competitive performance.
Performance Scoring
Players and teams are evaluated based on structured inputs: activity, scrim participation, consistency, and coordination.
Behavior Signals
FEN captures signals beyond raw stats: team play, presence, and engagement. This creates a more realistic competitive evaluation.
Future Ranking System
The architecture supports global ranking logic: teams can be ranked based on performance trends, not just isolated matches.
Unlike traditional platforms, FEN focuses on system-based performance:
- Consistency over one-time results
- Team coordination over solo stats
- Structured progression over random matchmaking
This creates a foundation for scalable competitive ecosystems.
Execution Flow
The platform is designed to guide players from casual play to structured competition.
1. Player Creation
Users create a structured profile and define their competitive role.
2. Roster Building
Players join or create teams with defined structure and leadership.
3. Competitive Activity
Teams play scrims, build consistency, and improve performance over time.
Results & Impact
FEN transforms competitive play from chaotic coordination into structured systems.
For Players
Clear progression path, better team experience, and structured improvement.
For Organisers
Access to structured teams, reduced manual work, and scalable competition management.
